Privacy

1 October 2026. This policy describes how Unilearn processes personal data under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). The controller is the operator named in the legal notice. Contact: rlesselin@gmail.com, +352 661 686 807.

What we collect

Account. Email address, the name you give us, and, if you choose Google, the basic profile Google shares for sign-in. Your password is handled by Firebase Authentication. We do not store it ourselves.

Study record. The university you select, the course you pick at signup, semester if you set one, chapter confidence, flashcard reviews, exercise attempts, notes you open, and mock results. This is stored on your account so it is there when you sign in on another device.

Activity. While you use the site we record which page you are on, the address and title, clicks on buttons and links (the visible label, not what you type into a password, email, or text field), form submissions without the field contents, how far you scroll, roughly how long the tab is visible, the page that referred you, your browser language, time zone, screen size, and a short browser identifier. JavaScript errors on the page are recorded so we can fix them.

A visitor id before you sign up. The first time you open Unilearn, Firebase creates an anonymous id so those events have somewhere to go. If you then create an account in the same browser, that id becomes your account and the earlier events stay with it. If you sign into an existing account instead, events that already belonged to a different id are dropped.

We do not run advertising cookies, and we do not use a separate analytics product such as Google Analytics.

Why

We process this data to create your account, keep your progress, show you the right course, secure the service, and see which chapters people actually use so we can fix and improve them. That is the service you sign up for. Activity data is limited to what we need to operate Unilearn and to understand usage of our own product. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it to advertise other companies’ products to you.

Who else processes it

Google Firebase provides authentication, the database (Cloud Firestore), and hosting. Google processes this data as our provider, including on servers outside Switzerland. Google’s infrastructure is the system the account and the study record run on. If you use “Continue with Google”, Google also processes that sign-in under its own terms.

Stripe processes payments when you buy a subject. Stripe receives your email address and payment details (card or TWINT) directly; we never see or store them. We keep a record of what you bought, when, and the amount, so your access works and for our accounting.

We do not give your study record to your university.

How long we keep it

We keep the account, the study record, and the activity events until you delete the account, or until we delete an unused anonymous visitor record. Deleting the account removes your user document, your activity events, and your Firebase login. A copy can remain in a backup for a short period until that backup expires.

The browser also keeps a local copy of your progress and a queue of activity events that have not been sent yet. Deleting the account clears that queue on the device you use. Other devices stay signed in until their session ends or you sign out there.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. The direct way to delete it is Account → Delete account. You can also email rlesselin@gmail.com. You can complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

We do not make automated decisions that produce a legal effect on you. Chapter confidence is a study signal you set or that the app updates from your own reviews. It is not a grade and it is not shared.

Children

Unilearn is for university students. It is not directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
